On National Appreciation Day for Catholic Schools, students, families, educators and other Catholic school supporters communicate the value of Catholic education and school choice. They share information with the significant contributions Catholic schools make to the nation and their role in preparing students to be good citizens. They pray for the nation and recognize all who serve it.
Students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue shirts with uniform bottoms. Morning pledge and prayer will be led over the intercom system at 9:20 am followed by the playing of the National Anthem for all students.
Our school will be visited by Brian Jodice, SMS alum and current Executive Vice-President of Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina. Brian will attend Mass and visit classes, sharing his SMS experiences and his work with PEFNC. Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina is a non-profit organization that advocates for quality educational options through parental school choice. Our mission is to ENGAGE at the grassroots level, EDUCATE North Carolinians about the options in our state, and EMPOWER families to have a voice in their children’s education. As North Carolina’s source for parental school choice, we believe in allowing parents to send their children to their school of choice – traditional or nontraditional. PEFNC recognizes that education is not “one size fits all,” and that children have unique needs. Families should have the freedom to choose the best education to meet those needs, regardless of race, zip code or income.
